Who operates this site

  • Operator: Javier García García
  • Address: Calle Cabriol, 46184 Valencia, Spain
  • Email: hello@asbestosexplained.com
  • Website: asbestosexplained.com

Asbestos Explained is operated by an individual based in Spain and is written for readers in Australia. The operator is a publisher, not a tradesperson: this site does not carry out, arrange, broker or supervise asbestos inspection, sampling, removal or disposal of any kind, anywhere, and is not a licensed asbestos removalist or licensed asbestos assessor.

What this site is

Asbestos Explained publishes independent, general-interest explanations about asbestos in Australian homes: where asbestos-containing materials were commonly used, what makes a material worth testing, what condition changes about the risk, who is legally permitted to remove it, and how the waste has to be handled.

What this site is not — please read this one

Nothing on this site identifies asbestos. Asbestos cannot be identified by eye, by photograph or by description. Only analysis of a physical sample by a laboratory accredited by NATA can confirm whether a material contains asbestos. Everything published here describes materials as possibly or consistent with containing asbestos, and that wording is deliberate.

Nothing on this site is professional advice, and it is not a substitute for a licensed asbestos assessor, a licensed asbestos removalist or an occupational hygienist. It is general information written without knowledge of your property, your material or your circumstances.

In Australia, asbestos work is regulated under the work health and safety framework implemented separately by each state and territory. Licence classes, the small-quantity threshold for owner-occupiers, notification requirements, prohibited methods and disposal rules are matters for your own state or territory regulator. Where we describe them, we do so in general terms and point you at the regulator — we do not certify what is lawful for you, and we do not publish a national figure for a rule that is set locally.

This site publishes no medical content. It does not describe symptoms, diagnose conditions, assess exposure or offer any opinion on health outcomes. If you are concerned about an exposure, that is a matter for a medical practitioner. It likewise offers no legal or insurance advice.

This site deliberately does not explain how to cut, drill, grind, sand, break or pressure-clean material that may contain asbestos, or how to handle friable material at all. Those omissions are editorial policy, not oversights.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator accepts no liability for loss, damage or injury arising from action taken, or not taken, on the basis of material published on this site. You use the information here at your own risk and on your own judgement.

Prices, rebates and running costs

As a matter of editorial policy, this site does not publish prices, hourly rates, quotes, removal or testing costs. They vary by state, by access and by year, and a figure left on a web page becomes misleading with time. Where money is relevant we explain what drives it and what to ask, and send you to a current source.

Affiliate links and independence

Some links to retailers may be affiliate links, meaning the operator may earn a small commission if you buy through them, at no additional cost to you. Where that applies it is marked on the page. Affiliate arrangements do not influence what is recommended, and the operator has no commercial relationship with any asbestos removalist, assessor, laboratory, manufacturer, brand or trade association.

Intellectual property

The text, structure, design and original graphics of this site belong to the operator unless stated otherwise. You are welcome to quote briefly with attribution and a link. Wholesale reproduction of pages is not permitted.

External links

This site links to external sources, including Australian government bodies, state regulators and the national accreditation body, so you can check what we say against the original. The operator does not control those sites and is not responsible for their content, their availability or any changes made to them after we linked. A link is not an endorsement.

If you find that a source we cite no longer says what we report it as saying, please write to hello@asbestosexplained.com and the page will be corrected.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, we want to know. Send the page and the correction to hello@asbestosexplained.com, ideally with the source, and it will be fixed.
